What is the law around CBD and Cannabis in the UK? (A quick recap)

We’ve got a full article about that over here that we keep up to date as things change here’s an overview.

Currently, CBD is legal in the UK as long as it contains less than 0.2% THC There are some exceptions to that rule which we’ll discuss further on in the article but generally CBD is a welcome and accepted part of the UK legal Cannabis market. Cannabis / weed / bud etc is still illegal and (very wrongly) still classified as a Class B Substance. As with most illegal things don’t take it anywhere near an airport, it’s not worth the risk.

Can you fly with Medical cannabis from the UK?

Honestly, it makes me feel like we’ve come a long way when I get to say ‘it depends’. Which sounds a bit silly but it really is progress! If you are a medically prescribed user of Cannabis then you may be in luck.

The advice of both the Government and the airlines is that you’re going to need to get in contact with the embassy of the country you’re planning to visit. We went to Iceland recently and were pleasantly surprised.

The laws regarding cannabis vary greatly all around the world and while some countries have legalised the use of medicinal cannabis and even some haven even allowed recreational cannabis but not allow it past the border, others have yet to do so.

Chances are you may have different strains one with high THC and one with High CBD, it’s worth including that in your email to the embassy as one may be permitted while another might not.

The most important thing to do is check the laws and regulations for CBD products wherever you’re going. Familiarise yourself with the CBD laws in the country you’re visiting to avoid any confusion. You should be able to find out quickly with a Google search but if you really want to be certain then don’t be afraid to contact the embassy. So if you’re wondering ‘can I take CBD oil on a plane’ or CBD edibles, or even CBD concentrates then the answer is probably yes! You definitely might want to double check with concentrates though! Just make sure you’re buying quality products from reputable sources, i.e not a guy down the pub.

Can you fly with CBD flower from the UK?

No. Unfortunately it’s as simple as that. CBD flower without a medical prescription is illegal in the UK and at least at the time of writing (January 2023) anyone who is selling CBD flower is doing so illegally risking themselves and their customers.

I am mildly bitter about that but because it’s something that should be legal but I refuse to take that risk for either of us.
